Big props for taking the extra steps to set up an intro comic of sorts for your entry into Shadow of Kudra! it helps everyone get a feel for the situation of your character and helps opponents write him truer to form, and you get some reviews that will help you make your round 1 production even better.
Here's some quick things you can do for yourself to up your production quality going forward: Check out a comic fonts site like Blambot to look for a nice free font or set of fonts you can use, and take extra care with whatever time-saving brushes or effects you use for buildings, if you have to go over what you set down to give it a more hand-drawn feel that will help with the overall cohesion of your work
Nice lil intro comic here rhanny, I do really like that big splash page of kudra. I do believe that is your standout page right there. You got a nice shadow on kudras head there, I do believe youre going to want to use those shadows in a bit more of your panels. Like when kudra was coming out of the water, it just adds that extra little bit of atmosphere that goes a long way. I would also just watch out for faces, there's a few times where you draw Ron without a nose. His hair doesnt cover the nose so I would just include that in the future, and a second note youll want to put the hair that covers his eyes way lower as where you have it now it just barely gets bellow where the eyes are on every other character. Nice work on the intro though, great job!
Holy motivation, Kudra. Why'd you have to do his angel bro like that?
This is a nice little amuse bouche before we get to the meat and potatoes of what to expect. Characters like these you expect to get into terse and deeply introspective exchanges, but this felt quite friendly and natural. We didn't need to be told they were friends, we were shown by the care and amusing banter they had together which was nice. I'm also a big fan of poking fun at your own character by pointing out their trope- this being broodishness.
We are left with some loose threads I wish we'd gotten just a smidge more context for, like Mila. Daughter? Wife? Sister? With our good angels loss, have you alluded to Ron's motivation? Will he break the unfortunate news to poor Mila?
This comic was an expected hype of the violence and action to come, but you have some great germinating seeds for pathos and character development. I hope you water them!
Your prologue’s direction does a lot of the heavy lifting. Even where the art is simpler, the shot choices; quiet rooftop banter, the sudden crash, that big kaiju splash, and Mike’s “I SAID GO!!” give the pages real punch. The closing stinger especially feels juicy; it’s pure dread, and it makes me want to see what you've got coming next.
Story-wise it’s a bit plain so far. The friendship beat and cliffhanger work, but Ron doesn’t come into focus much yet, and the angel angle in a kaiju-survival setup leaves some questions I’d love to see round 1 dig into. Still, it’s an atmospheric hook with heart, and I’m curious where you take it.
